Welcome to The Integrated Curriculum Classroom!
This website is designed to give teachers resources for building their own integrated, project-based units, without starting from scratch. Think of it as a grown up version of Fashion Plates, mix-and-match books, or choose-your own-adventure stories.
Use the resources you find here to:
- Start with engaging hooks and essential questions to inspire your students’ sense of wonder as you begin a unit. Use these to develop an understanding of existing background knowledge, skills, and interests.
- Choose high-quality literature to support your science and social studies content, with picture books and chapter books that integrate content with rich literacy instruction;
- Find a variety of activities and resources for each content strand that will support your students as they pursue their wonderings and develop deep understandings.
- Challenge your students to produce extraordinary artifacts of their learning, by picking culminating project ideas. Each integrated project gives a sense of timing, guiding questions, suggestions for mentor texts, and anchor mini-lessons that anticipate student instructional needs through the project. All of the integrated projects can be used with a wide variety of content.
- Develop structures and routines for supporting an authentic, contextual learning in an engaging and purposeful workshop classroom.
Explore, ask me questions, try some things, adapt some things! Let me know how it goes and what you need! I’m always open to suggestions about changes, additions, subtractions, and new ideas!
